What is the labour accommodation policy for workers in UAE?

Clean and comfortable accommodation is very important for the efficient functioning of labours in their workplace. A good accommodation can give sound physical and mental health for labours to work productively. To guarantee the welfare of labours in the UAE, the UAE government makes immense efforts to ensure quality labour accommodation through various resolutions.

The UAE Government is committed to providing a quality life for the labourers. Ministerial Resolution No.44 of 2022 Regarding Occupational Health and Safety and Labour Accommodation states that organizations with 50 or more employees, whose monthly salary is less than 1500 ADE should be provided with accommodation. Accommodation must be in a hygienic situation and should have proper ventilation, and must be air-conditioned.  There are guidelines to be followed for providing accommodation, that must be followed for guaranteeing the basic quality of life. Responsibility of Employee

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has clearly directed that establishments must provide labour accommodation for the employees and certain criteria has to be followed to confirm the quality and safety of shared accommodation. Capacity and Space Requirements

First and foremost, the building of accommodation should be licensed by the government. Each and every person should have 3 square metres in a bedroom and there should not be more than 10 people in a room. Ventilation and air conditioning should be a priority, there should be a proper way to ensure air circulation in all rooms, kitchen and bathrooms. Housing space should be well illuminated.

Health and Safety Measures

To provide healthcare for the labourers the accommodation should be equipped with a first aid room and also there should be a quarantine room. The kitchen must be managed by a licensed company and proper safety measures should be taken. 

Waste disposal should be done in accordance with the standard procedure that does not hamper the environment 

 

Sanitary Facilities

  • There should be easy access to sanitary facilities
  • For every 8 persons, there should be one person.
  • One urinal must be allocated for every 25 persons. There must be sufficient water.
  • There must be one place for bathing and one washbowl for every 8 persons.
  • In bathrooms, there must be the availability of Hot and cold water.
  • There should be a sufficient quantity of toilet tissues.
  • Bathrooms and toilets must be cleaned at least once a day with a sterilizer.
